In Bates vs. Merritt Seafood, Inc., 663 F.Supp. 915, 1989 A.M.C. 81 (D.S.C. 1987), an third party LHWCA case, we established the liability of a corporate entity as the principal for another corporation which owned a vessel, defeating the attempts by the principal corporation to avoid liability by setting up separate corporations for each vessel it controlled. We also defeated the attempts to limit the amount of liability to the value of the vessel.
